Dental Crowns

Who Might Require a Dental Crown?

  1. Shielding a fragile tooth from potential cracks.
  2. Stabilizing a fractured tooth.
  3. Encasing a tooth with minimal remaining structure.
  4. Providing a foundation for a dental bridge.
  5. Masking a tooth with noticeable discoloration.
  6. Filling gaps left by a dental implant.
  7. Sealing a void after a root canal procedure.

What does the process of getting a dental crown involve?

  • Initial Assessment: The procedure begins with an examination and X-rays. If needed, preliminary treatments such as a deep cleaning or root canal may be performed. The next phase involves preparing the tooth for the crown, which includes numbing the area and removing a portion of the tooth’s surface to accommodate the crown. An impression of your teeth will be made, and a temporary crown will be placed until the permanent one is ready.
  • Second Appointment: During this visit, the temporary veneer is taken off, and the new dental veneer is fitted and adjusted to ensure a perfect bite. Once the fit is satisfactory for both you and your dentist, the veneer is permanently bonded to your tooth. This procedure usually takes around 5-6 days to complete.

What Is the Ideal Material for a Dental Crown?

Zirconia Crown:

  • Monolithic Zirconia Crown: Created from solid zirconia blocks with advanced CAD/CAM technology, this type of crown provides exceptional strength and durability. However, it may lack some aesthetic qualities due to its reduced translucency.
  • Layered Zirconia Crown: These crowns blend the robust qualities of full zirconia with a ceramic layer for enhanced aesthetics, particularly in visible areas. This combination offers both durability and a natural appearance. At our dental center, we favor layered zirconia crowns for their optimal balance of strength and visual appeal.
